La galaxie des chiens de chasse ou galaxie du tourbillon , Whirlpool pour les anglosaxons, porte le num\u00e9ro 51 dans le catalogue de Charles Messier. Ce c\u00e9l\u00e8bre objet est en r\u00e9alit\u00e9 compos\u00e9 de deux galaxies en interaction (NGC5194 et NGC5195). La galaxie NGC5195 situ\u00e9e en haut de l’image semble reli\u00e9e \u00e0 M51 mais elle est en fait en train de se faire d\u00e9mantibuler par les puissantes forces de mar\u00e9e de cette derni\u00e8re. On devine dans le haut de l’image les courants d’\u00e9toiles \u00e9ject\u00e9s dans l’espace.
